Over the past few months, the cost of chicken feed has increased in Delhi leading to a rise in the price of eggs touching Rs. 4.21 per piece as per recent reports. Although this is not the highest price seen in the city, the prices of the eggs have been steadily increasing for a few months now. There are many factors contributing to the rise in the price including feed costs, transportation, and labor expenses.

Due to the various factors mentioned the consumers in Delhi are paying more for eggs, with the average price of a tray of eggs exceeding Rs. 132.3, while the cost of the same tray a few years ago was as little as Rs. 112.3. While the current situation is challenging for consumers, it’s important to note that egg prices are still relatively low compared to other staples such as rice and wheat.

Families in Delhi have been consuming less number of eggs due to the higher prices. However, the production of eggs is expected to rise in the future, which may bring down the price over time. In the meantime, poultry farmers in Delhi are reporting losses as the cost of chicken feed accounts for around 60% of their total production costs.
