Although this is not the highest price seen in the city in the past year, egg prices have been steadily rising for a few months now. Factors such as increased feed costs, transportation, and labor expenses have all contributed to the price hike at the farm gate.

Consumers in Andhra Pradesh are now paying more for eggs, with the average price of a tray of eggs exceeding Rs. 137.4. This represents a significant increase from just a few years ago when a tray of eggs could be purchased for as little as Rs. 117.4. While the current situation is challenging for consumers, it’s important to note that egg prices are still relatively low compared to other staples such as rice and wheat.

However, the higher prices are having an impact on egg consumption in Andhra Pradesh as many families are cutting back on their consumption of this essential food item. While the current cost of production is high, egg production is expected to increase in the future, which could help bring prices down over time. In the meantime, poultry farmers in Andhra Pradesh are reporting losses as the cost of chicken feed accounts for around 60% of their total production costs.
